Meet NaShona

NaShona Kess is an attorney, advocate, and public servant committed to building stronger, safer, and more equitable communities throughout Baltimore and District 45.

With nearly two decades of experience in law, public policy, civil rights advocacy, and government affairs, NaShona has dedicated her career to serving families, protecting vulnerable communities, and advancing meaningful change across Maryland.

NaShona currently serves as Deputy Director of Government & Legislative Affairs for the Maryland Department of General Services, where she works on policy and legislative matters impacting communities across the state.

Previously, she served as Executive Director of the Maryland State Conference NAACP, helping lead advocacy efforts on civil rights, criminal justice reform, education equity, housing, and community empowerment.

She also serves as Vice President of the Baltimore City NAACP and has been a visible voice for accountability, public safety, equity, and opportunity throughout Baltimore.

As an attorney, NaShona has worked directly with children and families in need of legal advocacy and support, helping navigate difficult systems and ensuring vulnerable individuals receive fair treatment and access to resources.

In addition to her professional work, NaShona has remained deeply involved in community leadership and service organizations throughout Baltimore.

Now, NaShona is running for Democratic Central Committee to ensure District 45 has experienced, engaged, and community-focused representation that listens to residents and fights for their priorities.
